Education Assistant

Job description

The role:

A wonderful opportunity has become available to work with a neurodivergent adolescent in their family home as an education assistant in the Greenwich Borough of London from September.

As part of this role, you will be working on a one-to-one basis with the young person, supporting them to access learning activities which are child-led and based around the young person’s interests and passions. This might include learning how to be a nail technician, gaming on Roblox, going climbing, supporting the young person during tuition time or accessing activities in the community. What we can guarantee is no two days will be the same!

You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team including teachers, SaLTs, OTs, local authorities and programme coordinators to deliver a package of provision which meets the outcomes of a young person's EHCP, so strong communication and organisation skills are a must.

The ideal candidate could be neurodivergent themselves and is someone who is able to offer a full-time commitment during school terms, with some hours being available during school holidays.

  • Must have experience of working with neurodivergent adolescents, particularly those with a demand avoidant profile, on a one-to-one basis, in the family home

  • Must have experience of low-arousal and low-demand approaches

  • Must have experience working inside or outside of education settings

  • Must have a car that can be used as part of the role

  • Must have experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team, reporting to teachers and package coordinators through written and verbal mediums

  • Must have experience in a mentoring and supporting role with students accessing their education out of a school environment

  • Essential to have a full, clean driver's license and car. Non-drivers should not apply for this role.

  • Desirable to have a teaching assistant (or equivalent) qualification

  • Desirable to have a level 1 safeguarding qualification - will be provided as part of the role if not

  • Desirable to have an enhanced DBS check on the update service, but this will be provided if not

  • Desirable to have a pediatric first aid training qualification, but this will be provided if not
