Tutor Profile.
Hello my name is Brigit and I’m an art & design tutor here with SAT. I am a teacher, an artist and a wellbeing mentor. I have worked with children with neurodiversity and special needs for over 15 years in schools, specialist units and facilities for disengaged students, and am very passionate to help these young people get the most out of their talents and capabilities. My experience includes working 1-2-1 with children with ADHD, PDA, ASD, dyslexia and neurodiversity. I know the education environment can be challenging for these students. I am keen to see encouragement of equal opportunities for all sectors and members of our society.
Every child is different so my focus is on supporting and understanding their individual needs with empathy and vision. By making a genuine rapport and connection with the student I help support the learning journey so it is engaging, fun and accessible whilst giving guidance and mentoring to help
them thrive. I am compassionate and innovative and feel it is important to create a safe environment to inspire and experience the enjoyment that learning can bring.
We all have something special to offer the world and practicing our creative thinking in art & design processes helps ignite that confidence that may be difficult to access sometimes. In building this strong connection and using positive processes with the young people I help broaden the horizons of each
individual and allow them to grow into their potential. I use resources that support positive thinking and mindset, encourage emotional intelligence and awareness and build on problem solving techniques appropriate to the age. With these tools it helps manage anxiety, ignite curiosity and nurture their individual talents.
I have always been passionate about art, creativity, the theatre and self expression. I did my degree at Plymouth University in product design and went on to work in London as a set designer and artist which was lots of fun! After having my daughter I moved to Kent to be by the sea and the countryside. My daughter has a rare neurodiverse condition which has given me a lot of experience as a parent as well as a professional with SEND. I also currently work as a wellness facilitator & yoga teacher and I deliver creative yoga sessions in schools in Shepway for key stages, 1,2,3 & 4. I have devised and led many arts & wellbeing workshops with children and their families over the span of my career. Clients have included, NHS, Social services, schools, arts/sports charitable trusts and private businesses. I use a diverse range of techniques and mediums including drawing, painting, textiles, printmaking, model making, ceramics and puppetry.
I really look forward to meeting you and being able to explore the endless joy and possibilities that the arts can bring and sharing this passion with you.
