Tutor Profile.
Hi all and welcome to my profile. I'm Poonam, an ex Maths teacher from Wales.
After 14 wonderful years in the classroom, where I was Head of Mathematics for 2 years, I have left the profession seeking a new challenge. My passion for teaching & learning and supporting young people still remains, so I have decided to offer my expertise through online tutoring.
I have taught many KS3 (including SEN) and KS4 classes of various abilities across schools in South Wales. I have a proven track record of raising attainment and have secured excellent GCSE results over the years. Parent's evenings were always a highlight where many parent/carers spoke positively about me.
My pupils began to approach the subject with the same enthusiasm as myself. How? - Through increased self confidence and positive encouragement. I love my subject - Maths is definitely not boring. I went into teaching to help change pupils mindset, as it's often considered a 'boring' or 'difficult' subject. Ask yourself, how many times you have said the following? “I give up”, ” I can’t do Maths” or “I don’t get it because my brain doesn’t understand numbers”.
My main goal is to help pupils understand the importance of the subject and feel the same excitement I do when I finally manage to reach the correct answer. After all, how else could you work out Usain Bolt’s speed in a race? Or how many grams of flour Mary Berry needs for the perfect cake? What about the average number of goals scored by Aston Villa in a season? Have you ever wondered how architects use
scale drawings and plans?.
How can I help you/your child?
* Step by step well planned sessions that focus on learner engagement and progression
* Interactive lessons where pupils are regularly 'doing' rather than just listening
* A range of clear explanations that cover pupil misconceptions/common errors/exam
technique
* Measuring learner progress throughout the session and being adaptive based on their
needs
